This pistol is rare! This is a Colt Model 1860 fluted Army revolver and it is cased!. It is serial number 4255 and was
made in1861. There were only 4000 of these weapons made. It is six shot, .44 caliber with an 8” barrel. What’s more it
has a Colt factory letter. According to the letter (goes with the gun), it was shipped to Governor William Dennison of
Ohio on June 14th, 1861 in a shipment of 200 guns. This gun is certainly a Civil War martial Colt but it must have
seen very light use and/or had a very caring owner because there is lots of finish remaining. The receiver is cut for a
shoulder stock. All surfaces are nice and smooth. There are a couple of minor dings but that is about all. It has 50%
fading blue on the barrel with some light staining at the muzzle. The receiver is now pretty much all dark. It appears to
have quite nice case colors. The cylinder has very strong bluing in the flutes and is a nice dull pewter color otherwise.
There is about 50% varnish remaining on the grips. The bore is fine with just one spot of light pitting. The barrel
address and other lettering are all sharp and correct. All numbers match however I have not removed the barrel and
cylinder so have not been able to verify the cylinder number. I’ll guarantee it as correct. It functions perfectly and is nice
and tight. The safety pins are all there although slightly mashed. The screws are all excellent. It comes in a wood case
with brass corners. Included are a great Colt flask, a Colt marked bullet mold, a nipple wrench, a tin of UMC caps and
a brass cleaning rod. No cartouches that I can see. These guns were used hard and it is almost impossible to find one in
this condition. It would be a terrific addition to a Civil War or Colt collection.
