EXCELLENT 1863 FAYETTEVILLE ARMORY 3RD
TYPE RIFLE/MUSKET

Return to antiquesandguns.com home page

Confederate Civil War firearms saw hard use and most did not survive. That considered, this 1863 Fayetteville
Type III rifle/musket remains in excellent condition. According to the consignor, this weapon came from the
collection of well-known Confederate collector and authority Ted Meredith. We are presently verifying this.
Condition is as follows. The important “PB” inspector mark is visible on the left side of the stock. The eagle,
C.S.A., Fayetteville and 1863 lock markings are good and sharp. The barrel proofs (V, P and eaglehead) are in
good condition. The date 1863 is visible on the barrel tang. The CSA mark on the buttplate is about perfect.
Both brass barrel bands are correctly marked with a U. The nose cap is of iron. The bayonet lug remains on the
right side of barrel. No major cracks in stock, just honest battle scars. Barrel length is 33".  The ramrod
appears to be original. A long passed trooper has neatly carved his initials – A.W.S. – into the left side of the
stock. A wonderful attic-found ’63 Fayetteville from a famous collection.       Price: $16,500.
