This Maynard Percussion Carbine has a silver plaque in the stock inscribed with the name Hugh Nesbitt. He must have been a person of great wealth or importance because the rifle that was built for him is one of the finest we have ever seen. At first glance, one is struck by the extreme beauty and finish of the honey colored crotch walnut stock. Closer examination reveals exquisite full scroll coverage engraving on the patchbox, sides of the buttplate, presentation plaque, hammer, action and the triggerguard tang embellished with vignettes of wild animals. The engraving exhibits the skill and characteristics of the master Gustave Young. Added features are a set trigger and tang sight. All in excellent condition. A mid-19th Century masterpiece that will be the focal point of a great firearms collection. Previously Sold
